The Katy District
Unofficially dubbed “The Katy District”, it is among one of the smallest districts in Class 5A for this realignment period. With that being said, it still features one of the state’s dominant programs in the Katy Tigers.
Katy looks to be the favorite once again in 2008, coming off one of their best seasons in school history as the 2007 State Champions in Division II 5A. They are young, but do return playing experience as their 2007 team often tagged out when facing weaker opponents. If they can get out of their non-district battle hardened and without too many cuts and bruises, they are most definitely poised to repeat a District title.
While the district isn’t as loaded with top end teams as other districts, it still is home to one team that most certainly will not go down to the Tigers without a fight. Cinco Ranch is poised to prove what they are made up of after a season that had not met the expectations that the Cinco Ranch community had initially envisioned.
The rest of the district playoff spots are up for grabs between the likes of Seven Lakes, Mayde Creek, and Katy Taylor. Though Katy Taylor has recently replaced their coach, they still have a stable of capable talent to win them enough district games to clinch one of the four spots.
