The Break Down

Aldine ISD and Humble ISD were paired up in the early 90's to form what was one of the most talent laden districts the State has ever seen. On top of that, the district also produced some of the State's best football stars. Well, the UIL has paired the two districts up again to form the new 19-5A. It seems that the districts will relight the rivalries of old, especially that of "Big Ike" and Humble.

Ike is set and ready to take the district crown, returning one of their most explosive teams they have had in a long while. Ike returns six defensive starters, and four on the offensive side. If coach Ryan Evans can capture some of the same fire that former Coach Phipps pumped into the program, his team will be set up to march on to the Region 3 Crown.

Although Ike is favored, Humble is one team that the Eagles should not take lightly. After the last 3 meetings, Humble had left the Eagles wishing they had pushed a little harder, and ran a little faster. Humble returns almost their entire Offensive line, and the key starters and returning players on Defense. This sets the Wildcats to challenge Ike for the district Crown. If they can fill the vacant spots and fortify their weak ones, they should go at least 3 rounds deep in the playoffs. It would not be a surprise at all to see Humble in their first semi-final game since 1995.

Kingwood and Nimitz are both pretty favorable choices to pick up the remaining two playoff spots Kingwood returns a number of experienced players from a 3-7 season, and oddly enough a short playoff run that ended with an impressive stand against semifinalist, North Shore. Nimitz also is very talented, and after two years of missing the playoffs, they should be able to make it in with the fourth and final spot. Macarthur and Aldine both lost a vast majority of their starters, and most likely will experience a rebuilding season. Though neither should be taken lightly, given the talent on both teams.
